Fill your tank.

Enjoy the independence of a house call practice with the freedom to serve vulnerable communities, all expenses paid.

We have three grants available NOW for practices that will start in Reno in 2025. Potential for Federal Loan Forgiveness Program; your own practice! Don’t live in Reno, but ready for a change? We’ll help you relocate. Other grant locations may become available, so be sure to let us know where you are, if you are interested.

Don’t be cramped in a practice that doesn’t reflect your professional style. Come help us create a community-centric house-call practice with a heart. We are incubating several Heal Impact Practices in Reno. Each practice may receive over $700,000 in support, made possible through the generosity of the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation.

Did you know that 75% of pets in resource deserts have never seen a vet before? You can change that and experience what it means to practice the art of medicine–your way. This is your fresh-start chance to create a legacy of individualized care, inclusion, and equity in a nature-lover’s paradise with great need and opportunity.

We know it sounds too good to be true! Practice incubation support includes startup costs, veterinarian and tech stipends, additional funding of up to $100,000 to provide services to clients who can’t afford care, and ongoing marketing and operational support to ensure the practice is profitable and sustainable in the long-term.

This full-time opportunity, in partnership with Heal House Call Veterinarian, has flexible hours, mentoring, long-term potential, unlimited vacation, and ownership opportunity. Financial opportunities grow each year and work-life balance is emphasized.

The perfect candidate will:

  • be positive and caring,

  • desire eventual partnership/ownership in a productive and meaningful general house call practice,

  • love spending one-on-one time with pets and their families,

  • appreciate a good challenge,

  • commit to spending part of their time providing subsidized care to vulnerable community members like seniors, veterans, and those with language barriers,

  • enjoy the opportunity to be a positive role model in the community,

  • demonstrate strong commitment to inclusion and equity,

  • and enjoy collaboration with community partners.

We encourage new and seasoned graduates to apply. Spanish fluency or the desire to learn Spanish is a plus.

Special circumstance? This grant may available in your community.

We’re happy to present your dream and passion for access-to-care in your community to our partners.

But, first let us make a pitch for Reno, the home of our primary funders.

Our first grant recipient, Sarah Wilson, DVM, calls Reno home and we’d like to invite you to join her there. It isn’t just because Nevada has no state income tax or that Reno is sundrenched and nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. “The Biggest Little City in the World” is ranked #1 by BestCities.org. People in Reno are notoriously nice and pet-loving. Learn more about Reno from the Economic and Development Authority of Western Nevada. Reno is primed to support your practice and access-to-care mission for the long-haul.

Dr. Wilson’s practice has a special focus on seniors and works with the SPCA/NN, a sponsor of this project, to provide euthanasia to families living with financial insecurity. What would you do, if you could do anything, in Reno?

Congratulations to Lauren Hughes, DVM, our newest grant recipient!

Dr. Hughes has a history and passion serving survivors of domestic violence and their pets. Now she is building her own practice in NC where she can focus on her personal mission while creating a sustainable practice that will provide for her future (and her kids’). This grant will pay all of Dr. Hughes’ startup and operational costs for three years.

The great part about Heal is that you get someone to help you with the business end of things, but you don't have anyone telling you you need to make more money or have to charge this amount. —Lauren Hughes, DVM

Too good to be true?

This is a brand new concept in veterinary medicine. We believe that the only person that can truly cure a veterinary care desert is a practicing veterinarian with boots on the ground in their own community. Rather than ask veterinarians to shoulder all the risk of starting practices in vulnerable communities, we think it’s more reasonable to provide incentives. We choose house call vets because of their low practice overhead, a focus on incremental care, and their general “can do” attitude. There are three core partners in this initiative and many more wonderful supporters.

About Petopia Inc

Petopia Inc. is the non-profit partner in the Heal Impact Practice initiative of Heal House Call Veterinarian. The partnership combines a proven business growth strategy of Heal with three years of seed funding from Petopia and other partners to encourage private practice ownership in resource deserts. At the end of an incubation period, the sustainable practice belongs to the veterinarian. Impact Practices promote diversity and inclusion for veterinarians as well as pet parents while they cure care deserts.

About Heal House Call Veterinarian

Heal is on a mission to help veterinarians create the practice of their dreams. Founded by the creator of Petfinder to honor the importance of the veterinarian to healthy communities, the Heal practice model reduces financial risk to the veterinarian, increases their confidence, and provides front- and back-end support to protect and preserve the veterinarian’s quality of life and mental health. This paves the way for a veterinarian to focus on the art of medicine and serve their community, all while providing something the veterinarian craves—the power to practice concierge care when and where they want.
